Jorge Mendoza-Amuchástegui


Mexican Petroleum Institute (IMP)

Jorge Alfonso Mendoza-Amuchástegui has 32 years of professional experience at the Mexican Petroleum Institute (IMP), with more than 15 years of involvement in business development as Director of Exploration and Production Services, Technological Coordinator and Manager of Geophysical Prospecting Services. In the matters of ​​R&D, he has served as senior researcher in exploration seismology, specializing in numerical simulation of wave propagation and seismic migration. He has authored and co-authored 26 technical papers and presented 35 papers in congresses and symposia.

He is a Geophysical Engineer (1984) from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)  and holds a Master of Science (1991) degree in Geophysics from the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Houston, where he also served as research assistant (1990-1991) in the Seismic Acoustics Laboratory.

Lecturer in the Graduate Studies Division of the School of Engineering, UNAM, from 1992 to 2004, he has conducted 6 master’s theses and 3 undergraduate theses.

He is an active member of the Academy of Engineering, where he has served as Secretary and Chair of the Geophysical Engineering Specialty Commission.

The professional societies to which he belongs are: Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), Mexican Association of Geophysical Exploration (AMGE), and American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).
