Getenergy speaks to Gilberto Botas, the chairman of the
National Authority of Professional Education (ANEP) ahead of the Getenergy Global event where Gilberto will speaking

What is your role at the ANEP and the Mozambican oil/gas industry more broadly?

am the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Authority of Professional Education-ANEP. An organ through which the Government coordinates all the activities of the Professional Education in the country

What do you believe is the greatest challenge to Mozambique’s oil/gas industry future growth?

Right now the big challenge is the training of national technicians in order to work in the Oil/gas industry. We have to build or rehabilitate schools in order to teach courses facing this industry. I draw attention to the fact that gas/oil is a new industry in our country and, therefore, we must pay great attention to the training of our Trainers.

Where do you see the greatest opportunity in today’s Mozambique oil and gas industry and how are you positioned to capture this opportunity?

The opportunities are numerous: from the creation of enterprises in partnership with the Mozambicans, providing services to various levels, such as: specialized Consulting, sale and maintenance of equipment, transport, hotel services, etc. This is a great opportunity for the foreign investor to and benefit from the facilities created by the Government to attract foreign investment. This is where the training industry also has their opportunities. We have to create conditions for the training of our technicians takes place in our country.

If you could wave a magic wand over the industry, what would you change and why?

Create a favorable environment to attract more foreign investment and still do a study to find out what the factors hindering this investment. You may need to adjust the current Labour law to the new realities of the country. The objective would be to facilitate the entrance of new investment in our country respecting our sovereignty.

What are the strategic priorities for your organisation in the next 12 months?

In fact my institution is new and needs to first clean up. Will need to recruit experienced staff, approve its statutes and define actions for impact at short, medium and long term. It is an institution that has on its Board of Directors, Government representatives, Employers, Workers and Civil Society, as defined by the International Labour Organization-ILO.

How would you describe your organisation in one sentence to a new client/partner/investor?

The right partner for its business in Mozambique.

What takeaways would you like attendees at our Global Event to go home with regarding your organisation and your work both in Mozambique?

They must know that in Mozambique we have the ideal conditions for the foreign investor can establish and see his business grow. We are, therefore, open arms to receive them at any time.

What advice would you pass onto someone wishing to work in oil & gas in Mozambique?

I would like him to visit my country before taking the final decision to meet our people, our culture, and the beauty of our country. Then we could talk about the current legislation for the foreign investor. We have the best conditions for those who want to invest in Mozambique feel good and I’m sure his business will prosper.

Having participated in Getenergy Events for several years, why would you recommend another government representative to attend?

In addition to a great opportunity to talk about gas/oil, I also see that this is a great opportunity to do business, bringing new solutions to our problems in this area but I also see a great opportunity to make friends. The representatives of the Governments in these events have a great opportunity to bring technical solutions to the problems we face on a daily basis in the industry of gas/oil.
